Diabetes Checklist

The safety and wellbeing of participants and staff members is the foremost concern for BOE.

BOE will make reasonable adjustments for students with diabetes to enable them to participate in programs on the same basis as their peers.

To understand the needs of each person with diabetes, the details in section 1 need to be collected and assessed by our Risk Management Team. Section 2 is for a participant’s family, while sections 3 and 4 are for the school.

For journey programs, an Agreed Management Plan will be compiled by our Risk Management Team to ensure all parties are aware of their roles and responsibilities in the management of this condition.

INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS

managing a participant's condition

It is important for clients to be aware of who is responsible for managing a participant’s condition and how care will be performed.

  • The primary responsibility for management of this condition is with the client and school.
  • Due to the need for overnight monitoring and care whilst on program, The Outdoor Education Group recommend that the client provide two staff representatives to ensure adequate supervision for the group as a whole.
  • An Agreed Management Plan will be signed for journey programs, which includes the estimated time to definitive medical care and the accessible communication devices.
SCHOOLS MUST PROVIDE A STAFF MEMBER

Clients will be required to provide a trained staff member to manage the health and safety of participants with diabetes. Training must include:
